If I am watching TV I am most likely sitting on my bed so I thought I should get a large pillow which would allow me to do so comfortably without ruining my mattress or the linens. Wildly popular all over the United States, Mr. Coffee has become a bit of a cultural icon. Besides having Joe DiMaggio pitching the brand, years later the machine would be referenced in dozens of movies, songs, short stories and poems.

The first thing to do is take an objective look at the outside of your property. Get other opinions as well. To enhance the appearance of your home there are a few inexpensive things you can do.

The most important consideration is the state of repair of the property. You must repair everything that needs repairing, which includes any cracked windows, broken railings, loose screens, crooked shutters, loose awnings, broken light bulbs, etc.

Once repairs are done then it is time to clean and unclutter. The garage should be cleaned out and items thrown out that have not been used in a year. Remove old tires, paint cans, bicycles, loose shrubs and broken lawn furniture from the yard.

Clear all pathways of any debris. Trim all shrubs and remove dead branches. Clean out the eaves. Don’t forget the back yard! A new paint job can add tremendous curb appeal. Paint front doors, garage doors, trim and shutters a contrasting color to the brick and siding for a dramatic effect. Use only one color for uniformity and balance. Too many colors look busy.

Siding can be power washed to refreshen the appearance. Flowers and flower pots can add tremendous color to a boring front yard. Place flower pots and large outdoor plants in a variety of colors on the front steps, walkways, or porches. Hang flower pots from the ceilings of verandas or hang on railings. Buy plant hooks and hang flower pots from them, which can be placed on the sides and front walls of your home. Plant a few flower beds with some green perennial plants for contrast. This is fairly inexpensive, but can add a lot of appeal to your yard. There are many books on landscaping at the library that can help you with this. Nurseries can offer helpful suggestions as well.

When you provide the agency with the application and fee you’ve finished the first step. From here, more paperwork and money quickly follow. You will have someone come into your home to interview you are complete a home study. This will follow with even more paperwork and more money. Once they have all the paperwork they need on file, you will be considered active in the system. This means that you might be chosen by a birth mother when she is determining who she would like to have raise her child.

Looking online and into the adoption process, it doesn’t seem that drug and alcohol testing are a major part of the process for the family most of the time. Often times, it is just required for the birth mother. We should be requiring the hair alcohol test and drug follicle hair test so that we are placing all children in safe and secure homes. While it is important to know whether or not the mother has been on drugs or alcohol and how this may have affected the child, we also need to be careful on the types of homes that are chosen for foster homes or adoptive homes.

The bottom line is that we can all play a positive part on the future of our children.  We need to look to education and regulation to make a difference in the system. If you don’t have the heart for adopting or fostering a child in your home, you can still be part of the solution by getting involved in community efforts to help support children who are without a home.
