P2P and File sharing

 

There are countless people who use P2P networks for file sharing purposes. Through a P2P network, users can share files stored on their individual computers. In a true P2P setup, there is no server. Each computer is a “peer node” and can provide both server and client functions. Thus, using a P2P computer network is a great way to share media files with friends.

DC++ is one of the most popular file sharing P2P clients, especially on college campuses. It is a free, open-source product and thus easily accessible. Users can connect to their Direct Connect Network and download any files posted by other users. This can include music, videos, games, and other media. Currently, the Shareaza network boasts more than fifteen million files available for free download. These are organized into “collections,” which makes downloading all the files you want even easier. Users can also make personal profiles and connect socially with each other.

Some of the most popular P2P clients are those that specifically focus on music downloads. Among the many options available for getting song files, Limewire and Kazaa are two of the most used P2P networks. These work by facilitating downloads between two separate “peers.” Participation requires a simple software download free from spyware and adware. Users can use comprehensive search features and even integrate these clients with other music programs, like itunes.

Ultimately, P2P networks are a great way to share files across the internet. Although there is some controversy regarding copyright laws, most P2P activity is legal because it is the private sharing of individuals. Although there have been a few problems, P2P is generally safe to use and can help you simply and easily get the files you want.
